About Island Dyes
Open Every Day 10:00am - 7:00pm (roughly)
In 1989, Russell and Bryan Lowe opened their Island Dyes retail store. They started by selling shirts and clothing, especially the tie-dyes they made themselves. The shirts were popular, and eventually they started making the shirts wholesale. They've made shirts for several local businesses, including Tortugas, Brew-Thru, Woody's and Sooey's BBQ.
While the store eventually expanded into other merchandise, Russell and Brian never lost their love of making tie-dyed shirts. They are frequent guests at the elementary schools were they volunteer their time and materials and teach the children to make tie-dyes. Eventually, they thought, "Why not let people make their own shirts, their own way?" And Island Dye-It-Yourself was born.
The new store was enormously popular the first year it was open. Locals and visitors alike love having something to do with their children that is safe and fun, and the kids love it too! With several million shirts under their belts, Russel and Bryan are definitely experts in their field, and can help you and your child make any type of tie-dye shirt you like.
So if you're looking for a fun family activity, come down and be part of an Outer Banks tradition, and take home a souvenir you made yourself!
